Terrace and Features in a country garden

The object of this was to lay a York Stone terrace and to make it look as though it had always been there. The main raw materials were 100 square yards of old Mill flags of varying sizes and thicknesses, all rather heavy. It took two of us most of the winter of 1997 to do this job. We spent much time making the joints look aged and making cuts not look like cuts. Drainage is incorporated under some areas and joins in with pipes around the pond, which we did not do. The old drive was ripped up before we started and we began with hardcore and levelling, then sheets of reinforcing mesh. The slabs are laid on concrete as they were too heavy to go on cement and each had to be carefully lowered into place. The exit path slabs are on soil. Work completed 1998.

Additionally, we removed two old ponds and made the sundial instead of one and a small water feature to replace the other.
