Water & Other Features in Burwash, East Sussex

This garden belongs to somebody who has known me, she says, since 'before I was born'. The garden is on a steep slope as you see and was overgrown and untidy. The patio, which is made of surplus tomb stones (some with inscriptions) was muddied and needed relaying properly. We made a second paving area under a new pergola at the top, fenced for privacy.

The rockery was falling down the slope and is now supported properly on concrete and the stones are part-cemented together. These aspects are hidden from view. The garden is now terraced for slightly easier access. A second set of 'maintenance' steps runs up the left-hand side of the garden, with the lower part of these built into the rockery and thus difficult to distinguish.

The best feature in this garden, in my view, is the waterfall which fills an otherwise useless area. This is controlled from its best viewing point, which is an indoor seating area below. The pond is really just a reservoir but looks good from above.

This garden was reconstructed in September 2002, 2004 and again in 2006 due to the owner having difficulties getting to some parts of it. New photographs show the extended paving, along with a picture of the arbour as it looks after a few years of plant growth.
